Tired of the same old Get up and grind motivation? Me too. Driven by the monotony of those “inspirational” posters, I decided to take a different, more engaging route. With so many quotes losing their essence due to overuse, my partner and I founded Unspiration — a shop delivering brutally honest gifts.
Unspiration’s look is achieved by combining a simple sad face mark with Montserrat, a geometric sans-serif typeface by Argentinian designer Julieta Ulanovsky. I selected a vibrant and adaptable colour palette to highlight the brand’s boldness and playfulness.
Our objective was to stand out by packaging life’s grim truths in a hilariously authentic way.
In collaboration with lettering artist EJ Tee, I created a variety of items such as posters, t-shirts, hoodies, and mugs, all produced in partnership with a print-on-demand company.
Unspiration’s customers couldn't help but delight in the brand's refreshingly cheeky tone of voice. From the brutal honesty of our mugs to the sassy sarcasm of our T-shirts, our products had a unique way of lighting up faces and sparking laughter.
After two years of brutally honest laughs and heartfelt memories, we decided to do the most unspirational thing ever: shut down our Shopify store. The journey was filled with fun; we built a small community that truly appreciated our unconventional approach. We took the not-so-ordinary path, and it turned out to be a wonderful ride.
